    If you find that you&#039;re having to find rows prior to the current one frequently you may want to have a look at the LAG analytic function.  It only works on Oracle (but looking at your SQL it appears that&#039;s what you are using).&lt;br /&gt;

It also handles situations where the second row has the same effdt as the current row (but a lower effseq).
